Hello!
My name is Travelin' Teddy! I came from Shelby, North Carolina, and I belong to Mrs. Sepaugh's second grade class. As part of their study of geography, they have decided to send me around the United States. The children brought to school names and addresses of people and places that I would visit, and Mrs. Sepaugh surfed the web for hours for names and addresses and your name was on the list as a host family -- so here I am!
After I have spent a few days with you seeing the sights and getting a sense of the culture where you live, please box me up and send me to the next name on the list under your name. The list of names is in an envelope in the box and must be kept together with this letter when you send me on.
The children would like you to send a letter back to them in Shelby after I have arrived here to let them know that I am safe and sound. It would be wonderful if your letter also told a bit about you, your home, and your surroundings, since they want to learn as much as possible about different parts of the United States. Photos and postcards may be included too, if you like. If it will be difficult to get a letter to them right away, please still send me to the next person on the list when we are done visiting and drop the children a note in a week or so. It is important that I keep moving from place to place so that I will end up back in North Carolina by the end of the school year (May 25, 2000) to tell about my exciting travels.
The children have put up a big map of the United States in their classroom. As they get letters back from you telling them where I've been, they will mark it on the map. This way the children can trace my journey around the United States. They will also display the letters and photos that you mail to them. (By the way, I love to get my picture taken in new places. If you would like to photograph me with you and send our picture to the children, I know they would love it!)
Even though I'm sure I will greatly enjoy my stay with you, please don't keep me longer than three or four days because I really want to get back to my friends in Shelby on time. Thanks for your hospitality! You're helping Mrs. Sepaugh's class take a "field trip" around the United States!
Sincerely,
Travelin' Teddyof

I've finally arrived at my first destination! After getting out of my shipping box, here I am looking into Ashley's grandmom's scanner while it was turned on!!!
I just wanted to let you all know at Township Three Elementary that I arrived safely. After spending the weekend here in Peterborough, New Hampshire (I also learned how to correctly spell it when I arrived -- luckily I had the right zip code), I'll be off to my next visit in Cumming, Georgia!
It's not much fun traveling in a shoe box, but worth the discomfort to get to visit all the neat places I expect to!
A UPS delivery man dropped me off Thursday afternoon in the driveway at Ashley's grandparent's home in Peterborough. There, I met Ashley's grandmom, Susan and her husband Charles, and her father Henry. I had my picture taken with her and with her dad -- Ashley's great-grandfather -- who was over for dinner and a visit.
On Friday, September 9, 1999, I went to work with Ashley's grandma, Susan. She showed me all around Brookstone Company in Nashua, New Hampshire, where she is the Payroll Manager. Brookstone has stores all over the country. We also took some photos while we were there, to put on the website here when they come back. Friday evening we went to a Chinese restaurant to celebrate Ashley's aunt Debbie's birthday. Ashley's cousins, Josh and Alex, along with her grandparents, Susan and Charles, were also there.
Over the weekend I relaxed, exploring New Hampshire on some of the interesting web sites that are listed on Susan and Charles's "Our Home" page on their website.
